Making

I look at today’s prompt and here’s what I get:

What was the last thing you made? What materials did you use? Is there something you want to make, but you need to clear some time for it? (Author: Gretchen Rubin)

I had to step away for a bit before answering it so I could ponder it just a little. I am always in the process of making something. My goal is to fill my life with creativity. Lots of what I’ve been making recently centers around my daughter. This Halloween, I made her into the cover of the Michael Jackson “Off The Wall” album:

And just last night, I made her this fantabulous hairstyle:

But that last thing I truly made for myself was my film:

Well, that’s not actually the film, it’s the trailer, but you get my drift. It took me over two years to make and I used a camera, my Mac, an audio editing and recording program called Audacity and a lot of blood, sweat and tears. More sweat and tears than blood; thank goodness.

So what do I want to make now? More film. I’ve forced myself to make time by enrolling in a class at The Maysles Institute. Because of the Maysles program, I am actually in pre-production on my next film. But I want to make many more things, like music. No mom, I am not trying to sing, but I’ve been really influenced by folks like The Stuyvesants, who have me harkening back to my youth when I wanted to be a DJ. I also want to make interactive film projects like Out My Window.

Slowly but surely I am clearing my plate of all the nonsense so that I can spend more time…making.
